The last several years has seen a renewed focus and recognition of the importance of the public health community in support of the nation’s overall public health. To that end, the Centers for Disease Preventon and Control (CDC) has provided funding assistance via grants and other measures to help improve not only staffing burden that COVID-19 revealed, but more importantly the infrastructure that is needed to better assist in collecting, collating, and analyzing the health data to help drive more informed decisions which leads to better health outcomes. With the nearly $4 billion in grants awarded in late November 2022, along with several hundreds of millions in grants during 2020 and 2021, this often underfunded but vitally important component of our healthcare system is getting a much needed “shot in the arm” to help better support the critical work that our public health teams provide. To truly drive improvement, it’s important that public health entities leverage a strong data and analytic foundation with which to be able to build, grow, and expand as the system needs requires.
